Although a short-term plan is a flexible, affordable plan for individuals and families, it’s
important to be aware of 3 important differentiators of short-term plans:
- Plans do not cover pre-existing conditions
- Plans do not cover preventative care (i.e. annual physicals, mammogram)
- Plans do not cover prescription drugs (possible discount only at the pharmacy)
Short term plans are growing in popularity and can cover you from 1 month to 1 year. Some states have 3 year short term plans. Hopefully Michigan will have them soon as well. These do serve a purpose and can offer a smooth transition without any lapsed coverage; however, they are not for everyone. If you have questions about the appropriateness of short term coverage for your situation just reach out to Denise and she’ll be happy to answer any questions.
